These Fabulous Swimsuits Are Designed Specifically For Breast Cancer Survivors

Finnish designers have created a stunning range of swimsuits specifically for women who have lost a breast through breast cancer, and they’re modeled by some seriously glamorous women.

These monokinis are the brainchild of Elina Halttunen, a woman with “one breast and a passion for swimming”.

“Having only one breast made finding fitting bikinis difficult. Therefore I fashioned my own Monokini,” Halttunen says on the Monokini 2.0 website. “I thought that maybe there would be others out there like me, women who wanted swimwear that would not make them feel that they were missing a breast.”

Haltunnen joined forces with Finnish art duo Tärähtäneet ämmät (“Nutty Tarts”) to create the Monokini 2.0 swimwear range.

“We want to show that you can be whole, beautiful and sexy even with just one breast or with no breasts at all.”

The models are all women who have undergone mastectomies following breast cancer. They contacted the team after seeing initial product photographs online.

These photographs will be exhibited in Norway, Finland and Sweden. The team is launching a crowdfunding initiative soon to take the project even further.

Any thoughts?  I am a breast cancer survivor and I wouldn’t be caught with only one boob in these. LOL  I think it’s great for anyone who wouldn’t feel self conscious wearing one but absolutely not for me.  I’d be afraid someone might take the time to stare past my half flat chest and see the actual atrocity done to me by time and calories; my thunder thighs and fat ass.

Seriously though, kudos to anyone with enough self-pride and assurance that would wear one of these.  You’ve gone through a lot more than a few snickers at the beach I well know.  Me though, I’m sticking with my falsie until I get around to having reconstruction.  It just keeps slipping my mind.  🙂  This Text ©  Draggon
